The plate is now centered in the chuck, ready for machining to begin. Note how far the square corners of the plate protrude well beyond the ends of the chucking bars. It is admitted that we made a big mistake by not sawing off most of these corners prior to mounting the plate in the lathe, as these corners most be removed before the lathe carriage may slide under the work piece.
